Busy Day in Pirateland

Roster moves galore by Neal and Co. today.
- The Bucs have traded pitching prospect Todd Redmond to the Atlanta Braves for reliever Tyler Yates. The 30-year old righty has a 5.15 career ERA in 162.2 MLB innings. He did, however, hold right-handed hitters to a meager .213 BA last season.
- The Pirates released pitcher Jaret Wright from his contract, just one day after Wright gave the Pirates a two day extension on the clause in his contract that allowed him to opt for free agency on Tuesday if it looked as though he wasn’t going to make the club.
- Buc bought out the contract of pitcher Byung-Hyun Kim, saving the team about $500k in the process.- Josh Wilson was designated for assignment, while infielder Jorge Velandia was sent to minor league camp, which means Pirate personnel must believe Sanchez will be read to go next week.
- Doug Mientkiewicz was added to the 40-man roster, implying that he has earned himself a spot on the roster.
- Juan Perez, who will most likely need major elbow surgery, was unconditionally released.
The shake-ups leave six relievers in camp for three open spots: Sean Burnett, Phil Dumatrait, Evan Meek, Masumi Kuwata, and Hector Carrasco. My money’s on Burnett, Dumatrait, and Meek, though I wouldn’t be surprised to see Burnett sent to AAA and Carrasco sneak on, or potentially see the Bucs make another move.

So, with Josh Wilson going down, are they going with 8 relief pitchers and 4 bench guys?
Whoops, never mind, forgot about Morgan. So, 7 relievers, with Yates, Capps, Grabow and Marte already in leaves 3 openings. You didn’t mention Osoria - did something happen to him?
That’s my fault Nichol, somehow missed his name writing this up. Scratch Burnett being on the 25-man, and pencil Osoria into an opening day bullpen spot. Burnett should start in AAA, then.
My apologies for the confusion. Typed this up in a hurry on my way to class this morning, just kind of missed him there.
