Paulino Demoted

The Pirates sent catcher Ronny Paulino to AAA Indy and activated Ryan Doumit from the disabled list.

The 27-year-old Paulino, it was thought, would see the majority of the playing time at catcher while Doumit was on the DL with an injured finger.

But the defensive and game-callin skills of 35-year-old Raul Chavez changed those plans in a hurry.  Chavez will stay with the team, serving as the back-up catcher.

Ronny has been asked to work on his defense, his game-calling, and his hitting.

He was batting only .218 with two home runs and 18 RBIs.

With a six-game stretch of games on the road against AL teams, Chavez might get some playing time at catcher if the team decides to have Doumit serve as the designated hitter.
