As we all now know, Ryan Doumit has been placed on the 15-day DL because he fractured his left thumb. To replace him on the roster, Raul Chavez has been recalled from Class AAA Indianapolis.
The 35-year-old Chavez has appeared in 169 career major league games, with his most recent stint in 2006 with the Baltimore Orioles.
Chavez is said to have one of the strongest arms of any catcher in professional baseball.
At AAA, Chavez was batting .306 with three home runs and 13 RBIs. His recall fills the Pirates 40-man roster.
Doumit is being examined in Pittsburgh, there is no word yet how long he will be out.
UPDATE… Doumit is expected to miss a minimum of four weeks.

Looks like they announced 4 weeks, plus addtional rehab time. This will hurt. his offense from the catching postion is hard to come by. You have to hope Paulino and Chavez can battle tough until he returns………………
