Van Benschoten Demoted

Pitcher John Van Benschoten was sent to Triple-A Indianapolis after the second game of the double-header Monday, the game in which he started.

Van Benschoten was called up to the big leagues on April 27 and assumed the long relief role in the bullpen.

In his start, Van Benschoten struck out four and only allowed one run through the first three innings. But he hit a wall in the 4th inning after 55 pitches, and didn’t record an out before giving up four runs.

Van Benschoten has been dominate at Triple-A, going 4-0 with a 1.88 ERA.

The Bucco’s will announce Tuesday who they are calling up, or trading for, to replace Van Benschoten in the bullpen before the series against the Cardinals starts.
